Best Sunset Spots in Kalkan (And Where to Watch With a Cocktail in Hand)

SUNSET GUIDE · 4 min read

Kalkan's old town sits on a hillside facing the open Mediterranean, which means that on a clear evening, sunset isn't a single spot so much as a town-wide event. Balconies fill up, boats turn back toward the harbour, and restaurant terraces quietly become the most requested tables in the building. Here's how to make the most of it, at every level of the old town.

Ground Level: The Harbour Wall and Marina

The simplest option costs nothing: walk down to the harbour wall in the last hour of daylight and find a spot along the water. It's free, it's easy, and on a good evening the light bouncing off the marina is genuinely beautiful. The obvious downside is that everyone else in Kalkan knows this too — expect company.

Boat Deck: Evening Cruises

Several operators in Kalkan run evening boat trips timed around sunset, taking in the coastline and nearby coves before turning back as the light fades. It's a memorable way to see the sunset from the water rather than looking at it, though it does mean planning ahead and committing to a few hours on the boat.

Rooftop Level: Terraces Above the Old Town

For a sunset you can watch from a comfortable seat, with a drink in hand and dinner on the way, the old town's rooftop terraces are hard to beat — and they have the added advantage of height, putting you above the rooftops and looking straight out over the harbour to open water.

Taraça Lounge & Kitchen was built around exactly this view. The rooftop terrace faces the harbour and the Mediterranean beyond it, and the kitchen and cocktail bar are timed for an evening that starts with golden hour and carries on from there — handmade cocktails, a small-plates menu made for sharing, and a table you can hold for the whole evening rather than rushing through for the photo. It's open daily from 6:30pm, tucked down a quiet alley in the old town just a short walk up from the water.

Best Time to Arrive

Sunset timing shifts through the season — as early as 6:30pm in winter, closer to 9pm in high summer — so it's worth checking the time for your dates rather than assuming. Whichever spot you choose, aim to arrive 30–45 minutes before sunset itself: the sky often puts on the best show in the run-up, and the good seats fill early. If a terrace table is the plan, booking ahead by WhatsApp is the easiest way to make sure you have one.

However you watch it, Kalkan's sunset is worth building an evening around — not just a photo stop on the way to dinner.
